CANCER SOCIETY

The Cancer Society is the main hub for Cancer support in New Zealand. Your local Cancer Society should have a good idea of what resources are available to you locally. It's always a good idea when you are first diagnosed to go to your local cancer society and find out about the resources and services that are available locally.

SHOCKING PINK

Shocking Pink is a volunteer run organisation that is set up to specifically support young women (20-45) diagnosed with breast cancer in New Zealand. They run a really active online support group on Facebook and have yearly getaways.

PINC AND STEEL

Pinc and Steel offer a range of programmes that can help you out with your physical fitness during and after treatment. They also offer funded appointments with specially trained physiotherapists.

ADVANCED CARE PLANNING

This is a form that you (and your family, if you wish) can sit down together and fill in that expresses what your wishes are in different medical situations, so that you know that even if you are unconscious, your family and medical team know exactly what your wishes are.

MENTAL HEALTH FOUNDATION OF NEW ZEALAND

A disproportionately high number of young adults with cancer suffer from anxiety, depression and/or PTSD. This is a really common side effect of a cancer diagnosis and nothing to be ashamed of, but it is important that we care for our mental health at the same time as we are caring for our physical health.
